What does windshield replacement cost?

Because a number here would be misleading. Windshield cost swings more than people expect based on the actual glass a specific vehicle needs — the same model year can take three or four different windshields depending on trim. A real number needs your year, make and model, not a general answer.

The glass itself, mostly. A plain windshield with no extras is the cheapest part in the shop. A windshield with a rain sensor, a heating element, acoustic lamination, a head-up display projection area, or a bracket for a forward-facing camera costs meaningfully more — sometimes several times more — because it's a different, more complex part, not just labor on top.

That depends entirely on your policy and deductible. Comprehensive coverage often includes glass, and some insurers waive the deductible for a repair specifically because a cheap repair now is less than a full replacement claim later — but this varies by carrier and state, so it's worth a call to your insurer before you assume either way.
